Land and water preservation runs in the family for self-made hedge fund billionaire.

Louis Bacon, who has a lifelong interest in preservation, credits his grandfather (and also his namesake) for his passion in environmental conservation. A forceful preservationist in eastern North Carolina and a member of the local chamber of commerce, he battled with businesses to make them realize the long-term economic effect their business has on the environment. He also encouraged the protecting of environmental and cultural heritage from short-sighted destructive development as times boomed.

It's probably of no surprise that Louis Bacon chose to set-up Moore Charitable Foundation  and dedicate time, resource, and funding for the protection and conservation of natural resource in Colorado, Connecticut, North Caroline, and New York. For over 20 years The Foundation has helped over 100 organizations who share the same vision and goals as Mr Bacon.

Speaking about his philanthropic efforts, it's clear that Mr Bacon feels a real responsibility toward environmental issues: “I believe the battle to preserve nature is a worthy one for both the community and for commerce."
