Moore Capital Management Donates 77,000 Acres

The Trinchera Ranch in Colorado, over 77,000 acres of land, home to thousands of plant species and animals.  All this is owned by one man, Louis Bacon of Moore Capital Management. Not only is he one of the world's most successful hedge fund managers, Louis Bacon also founded The Moore Charitable Foundation over 20 years ago. The foundation focuses on the preservation and conservation of land and waterways across America, also supporting smaller charities who share the same goals.

The U.S. Department of Interior confirmed that they have received the entire 77,000 acres as a donation from The Moore Charitable Foundation. This latest land donation is in addition to the 90,000 acres donated in 2011 from the neighbouring easement called Blanca Ranch.

By donating these easements to charities they will receiving ongoing maintenance, protection from development opportunities, and also from becoming barren. By conserving the vegetation this keeps vital food sources available for the life sources which depends on it.

At a state meeting Louis Bacon spoke about this concerns for the land yet to be protected “We are too quickly losing important landscapes in this country to development - and I worry that if we do not act to protect them now, future generations will grow up in a profoundly different world.” Continuing on, Bacon added: "This motivates me and is why I am proud to place Trinchera Ranch, Blanca’s adjoining ranch, into a conservation easement forever protecting it with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. I am also honored to help Secretary Salazar and the US Fish and Wildlife Service create the Sangre de Cristo Conservation Area in Colorado’s San Luis Valley. It is an area widely known for its cultural, geographic, wildlife and habitat resources, and this conservation area provides another opportunity to conserve it in perpetuity."

The Trinchera Ranch sits in the middle so of the picturesque Sangre de Cristo mountains. Depending on where you are within the ranch, you can see spectacular views of various high desert shrubs such as Desert Sage, Cliff Rose, Cat Claw Acacia, and various other mountain grasslands. The ranch is also home to rare and interesting wildlife, such as the Southwestern Willow flycatcher, and the Rio Grande cutthroat trout. These are just some of the plants and animals that will benefit directly from Louis Bacon's donation.
